Inner World of Trees (Fantasy)

Something was trapped in that tree, trying to reach out. Was this an unfinished man partially fashioned from an ash tree as in Algonquian legend? Was this a wayward being, turned into a tree by an angry God? Are its groanings and creakings the vibrations of a Talking Tree, calling out warnings to a world that no longer understands? Or is it a child of Yggdrasill sculpting images in its own bark to show me a realm beyond the one I know so well?
